Sellincourt Curriculum - Reflecting our Diverse and Inclusive Community September 2021
Introduction
The Sellincourt Curriculum - Reflecting our Diverse and Inclusive Community' is a thematic curriculum underpinned by a rigorous approach to the teaching and learning of the core skills - reading, writing and mathematics.
Priority is placed on ensuring that these skills are taught progressively throughout the school with clear, whole school expectations and approaches. Reading, writing and mathematics are taught daily to every child at Sellincourt Primary School.
Phonics is taught daily to all children in Early Years and Key Stage 1 and where necessary into Key Stage 2. We us 'Read, Write Inc' to guide or planning and delivery of phonics.
The Sellincourt Curriculum must be considered alongside the school's Teaching and Learning Policy.
The curriculum's subject content fulfils the requirements of the National Curriculum (September 2014).
However, this has been enhanced and agreed by the Sellincourt staff to ensure that the content is best matched to the needs of our children.
What is a thematic curriculum?
This is a way of teaching and learning, whereby many areas of the curriculum are connected together and integrated within a theme. It allows learning to be more natural and less fragmented. It allows core skills to grow progressively, for example reading and vocabulary linked and with spelling and vocabulary linked and with spelling and sentence writing being frequently, yet smoothly, reinforced. It guides connected ideas to follow easily.
Core Values
The core values that underpin our curriculum are:

Homework
In Early Years this consists of asking parents to read with their child and listen to them read, learning letters and sounds, spellings and number bonds. Weekly activities help consolidate what has been taught throughout the week. As children progress through the school, homework becomes more formal and is set each week with children learning times tables, spellings and undertaking project work
