Welcome to FOSSIES

FOSSIES is the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) for Sellincourt Primary School. We’re a small, friendly group of mums, dads, carers and teachers who give our time to make school life richer for every child at Sellincourt.

We’re a registered charity (no. 1115824), run entirely by volunteers. No one is paid — every penny we raise goes back to the children.

What do we do?

Our charitable purpose, registered with the Charity Commission, is to advance the education of pupils at Sellincourt Primary School by raising funds, making grants and running activities for the benefit of the school community.

In practice, our mission has two sides:

Through events and communications that bring families, children, staff and neighbours together.

💷 Raising funds

To pay for the equipment, trips, books and experiences our children deserve, with a focus on inclusion and equity for every child.

Sellincourt is a vibrant, diverse school where around 33% of pupils are eligible for free school meals and Pupil Premium funding. School budgets are stretched. The little extras that turn a good education into a brilliant one — a class trip, new phonics books, a quiet bench, a leavers’ hoodie — only happen because parents and carers like you make them happen.

Our big goal: a brand-new school library

The problem

Sellincourt’s current “library” is two old classrooms pushed together. It’s too small to hold the books our children need, and it doesn’t give them the calm, inspiring space they deserve to read, think and dream.

What we want to build

A purpose-designed reading and learning hub at the heart of Sellincourt Primary — a glass-fronted, welcoming, single-storey building that will house a rich, representative collection of books for every age and ability. A space that can change the trajectory of hundreds of children’s reading lives, and with it, their life chances.

🛠️ Calling all parents and carers in the building trade

Before we can break ground on the new library, we need to gather quotes from three reputable firms. We’d love to hear from anyone with contacts or expertise in eco-development, pre-fabricated builds, living roofs, architecture or general construction trades.

Many companies will double the money their employees donate or fundraise for charity — some will triple it. As a registered charity, FOSSIES qualifies. A five-minute email to your HR team could turn your £50 into £100 or £150 for our children.

💡 Top tip when donating

Sign up for Gift Aid in-store. It costs you nothing but lets Age UK Tooting claim an extra 25p for every £1 raised on the items you donate. A simple step that makes a big difference.

Ways you could get involved

Suggest, organise or volunteer at events — help shape an events calendar that truly represents and celebrates all the cultures within our school.
Reach out to local businesses — send emails or make follow-up calls to ask for sponsorship, donations or raffle prizes.
Bake, cook or craft — we always need help behind the scenes for our food stalls and event crafts.
Join the committee — we’re actively looking for a Co-Chair, Secretary, Treasurer support, Trustees and committee members.
Suggest a community partnership — if you know of a local organisation, charity or business that could benefit our children or the wider Tooting community, please get in touch. Our partnership with Age UK Tooting started with a simple suggestion.
